AWE inspired Immersive VR Therapy
“Creating AWE” is an innovative immersive VR therapy project that is uniquely designed for patients in hospice, palliative care, and the seriously ill. Currently, there is a void in emotional support for these patients that VR therapy can fill.
“Creating AWE” is based on the latest neuroscience that finds VR to be extremely effective at creating “awe” and that experiences of “awe” can be transformative for patients; mentally, physically, spiritually, and can even shift a patient’s relationship to their mortality.
“Creating AWE” expands on a successful prototype that has proven to be awe inspiring and very effective at calming patients, providing relief from pain and creating a sense of spiritual comfort. It has been Institutional Review Board tested at Stewart Center for Palliative Care in Candler Hospital with very positive results reported in medical journals and at major VR conferences.
“Creating AWE” includes a series of interactive awe inspired experiences that guide the patient to focus on areas of the body with positive energy. The concept is based on neuroscience that links mental focus to psychological and physiological results. It will also include an interactive haptic component to enhance the physical experience.
